DOG OWNERS - LIVESTOCK WORRYING - GWENT AREA! |

A message for dog owners across Gwent – Keeping livestock safe!
Dear Resident
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve had several reports of dogs chasing or attacking sheep and lambs within the Gwent Area. These incidents can be incredibly distressing for farmers and cause real harm to the animals involved.
Under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, allowing your dog to worry livestock is a criminal offence. Worrying includes chasing or attacking animals in a way that could cause injury, suffering, or stress.
We know most dog owners are responsible and want to do the right thing. Keeping your dog under control around livestock protects everyone – the animals, the farmers, and your dog too. In some situations, a farmer is legally allowed to dispatch a dog if they believe it’s the only way to stop it harming their livestock, and none of us want things to reach that point.
❗ Please keep your dog on a lead near livestock, and make sure they can’t escape from your property. If you see a dog loose and worrying animals, let us know straight away.
please contact Gwent Police on 101, email contact@gwent.police.uk or Direct Message Gwent Police.
